Gratitude at Work

POSTED ON

Do you believe that your happiness depends on your success at work? Many people feel the same way. But actually, it’s quite possible that we’ve got it all backwards.

Psychologists like Shawn Achor argue that cultivating a positive mindset actually inspires productivity and success. If you can change your mindset, you can change your happiness, your productivity, and ultimately, your personal and professional success. In fact, 75 percent of job successes are predicted by your optimism levels, your social support, and your ability to see stress as a challenge instead of a threat.

If you can raise your positivity in the present, you experience what Achor calls the “happiness advantage” – your brain at positive performs significantly better than your brain at negative, neutral, or stressed. Your intelligence, creativity, and energy levels rise. Your brain at positive is 31 percent more productive. Now who wouldn’t want that?

Luckily, there are ways to train your brain to become more positive – to rewire your brain to work more optimistically and more successfully – with just a few minutes every day. For example, recording a few things you’re grateful for on a daily basis teaches your brain to scan the world for the positive first, rather than the negative.

Team Brilliant Ink is bringing gratitude into the workplace and amp-ing up our positivity with the launch of our Gratitude Project. We’re starting a communal gratitude journal in the form of a blog, where each member of our team posts something they’re grateful every week. We’re also keeping our own personal gratitude journals, and some of us are using the Gratitude 365 app to record our daily gratitude (which I personally recommend). We’re feeling more grateful already!

Stay tuned for more details about our Gratitude Project in the coming weeks! :)
